Basketball Recap: Bruton Takes a Loss

Bruton lost against Grafton back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Bruton Panthers were dealt a 66-33 loss at the hands of the Grafton Clippers. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 237th, while the Clippers are ranked 100th).

Grafton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Taylor Ragland led the charge by going 11 of 17 en route to 22 points along with six boards and five steals. Ragland's evening made it eight games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Hope Barnard, who posted 19 points in addition to seven assists and five steals.

Bruton has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season. As for Grafton, they pushed their record up to 11-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bruton has already played their next contest (against New Kent), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Grafton has also has no score uploaded for their next matchup, this one against Tabb.
