Soccer Game Preview: Grimsley vs. Northwest Guilford

Grimsley hasn't had much luck against Northwest Guilford recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Whirlies will look to defend their home pitch against the Vikings at 7:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.

Grimsley's defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Southeast Guilford with a sharp 9-0 win. With that victory, Grimsley brought their scoring average up to 2.7 goals per game.

Campbell Peters, who's played more minutes than anyone else on the Grimsley squad sat out for Tuesday's game. With Peters sitting this one out, Emmi Lucht got some extra time on the pitch (80 vs. her season average of 35).

Meanwhile, Northwest Guilford got the win against Western Guilford on Tuesday by a conclusive 9-0. Northwest Guilford haven't had any issues with Western Guilford recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

Northwest Guilford's offense was hitting Western Guilford from everywhere, as six different players booted in a goal. Laney Parker led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for two goals all by herself.

Grimsley is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-2-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 28 goals over those six contests. As for Northwest Guilford, they pushed their record up to 10-1-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home.
