Baseball Recap: Columbia Finds Home Field Redemption Against Forrest County Agricultural

There's no place like home for Columbia, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They blew past the Forrest County Agricultural Aggies 12-5 on Friday. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by seven runs or more this season.

MT Breland made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in February. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3. Columbia is undefeated when Breland posts two or more runs, but 2-4 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Collin Haney, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Columbia's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-4. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Forrest County Agricultural, they moved to 9-7 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Columbia Wildcats face off against North Pike Jaguars at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. North Pike will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Columbia surely won't give up without a fight. As for Forrest County Agricultural, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Perry Central at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Forrest County Agricultural's pitchers better be ready for this one: Perry Central has averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season.
