Softball Recap: Woodbridge's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Woodbridge never let their opponents score on Thursday. Everything went their way against the J.P. Stevens Hawks as they made off with an 11-0 victory. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Barrons as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.

Madelyn Brenner was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since April 1st.

In other batting news, Holly Casaliggi was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Vazquez, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Woodbridge kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Woodbridge now has a winning record of 6-5. As for J.P. Stevens, they are on a 13-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-9.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Woodbridge will square off against Sayreville at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Bombers' pitching crew has only allowed 2.4 runs per game this season, so the Barrons' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for J.P. Stevens, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Mount St. Mary Academy at 4:00 p.m.
