Soccer Game Preview: Batavia vs. Newark

The Batavia Blue Devils will take on the Newark Reds in a tournament on Friday.

Batavia is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Gates Chili just ended the team's three-match winning streak last Monday. They fell 3-1 to the Spartans. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Batavia came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' New York soccer rankings (they are ranked 137th, while Gates Chili are ranked 279th).

Meanwhile, Newark waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Their defense stepped up to hand the Screaming Eagles a 7-0 shutout.

Newark's win bumped their record up to 9-7-1. As for Batavia, their loss dropped their record down to 5-2.

Batavia beat Newark by a goal in their previous matchup back in November of 2020, winning 1-0. Do the Blue Devils have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Reds turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
