Softball Recap: Palo Alto Has No Trouble Against Monta Vista

Palo Alto had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 13-run drubbing they dealt Monta Vista on Friday. The Vikings blew past the Matadors 19-6. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won five contests by nine runs or more so far this season.

Kira Tzeng was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Palo Alto got a massive performance out of Riannah Soliman, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that Soliman has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Maya Rajgopal, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.

Palo Alto always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .763. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Palo Alto pushed their record up to 9-7 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Monta Vista, they are on a 19-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.
