Basketball Recap: Burr Oak Takes a Loss

After flying high against Litchfield last Wednesday, Burr Oak came back down to earth. The Burr Oak Bobcats lost to the St. Philip Catholic Central Fighting Tigers at home by a 66-50 margin on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Bobcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 496th, while the Fighting Tigers are ranked 218th).

Despite the loss, Burr Oak saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Braxton Boyles dropped a double-double with 11 points and 11 boards. Boyles is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Kayden Cole, who posted seven points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Burr Oak smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in six consecutive games.

Burr Oak's defeat dropped their record down to 12-9. As for St. Philip Catholic Central, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Burr Oak will welcome Mendon at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Burr Oak is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.5 points per game this season. As for St. Philip Catholic Central, they will host Calhoun Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
