Softball Preview: Burroughs Bears vs. Crescenta Valley Falcons
The Burroughs Bears will head out on the road to face off against the Crescenta Valley Falcons at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Burroughs is strutting in with some hitting muscle, as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.
Burroughs stacked an 11th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Glendale with a sharp 14-1 win. The victory was just what Burroughs needed coming off of a 13-5 loss in their prior match.
Burroughs got a massive performance out of Phoebe Spangler, who went 2-for-2 with two triples, three runs, and an RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Morales, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4.
Meanwhile, Crescenta Valley was able to grind out a solid win over Providence on Saturday, taking the game 6-2. The victory was just what Crescenta Valley needed coming off of a 9-3 defeat in their prior game.
Carley Mulcahey was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Mulcahey was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and a double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kate Barnes, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Alexa Johnson, who scored a run while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Burroughs has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. As for Crescenta Valley, the win got them back to even at 9-9.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both team's pitchers. Burroughs hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .421. However, it's not like Crescenta Valley struggles in that department as they've averaged .321. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
