Springfield is 0-3 against Whitmer since March of 2019 but things could change on Friday. The Blue Devils will be playing in front of their home fans against the Panthers at 5:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Whitmer will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Springfield extended their winning streak to three on Thursday. The Blue Devils came out on top in a nail-biter against Rossford, sneaking past 10-8.

The team relied heavily on Brady Ruckman, who went 2-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Springfield's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-9 when he doesn't). McCauley White was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Whitmer). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Emmanuel Christian a 23-0 shutout on Thursday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Panthers with their most commanding win of the season.
Collin Lawerence and Anthony Leroux made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Lawerence pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Leroux tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. What's more, Lawerence posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April. At the plate, Lawerence went 3-for-4 with three runs and one RBI, while Leroux went 3-for-4 with one home run, seven RBI, and four runs. That home run was Leroux's first of the season.
In other batting news, Nathan Sobecki was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Colsen Nichols, who went 4-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Whitmer always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .690. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Springfield's win bumped their record up to 5-9. As for Whitmer, their victory bumped their record up to 8-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Springfield has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Whitmer struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Springfield suffered a grim 11-3 defeat to Whitmer in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Blue Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
