Basketball Game Preview: Southern Wayne Saints vs. South Johnston Trojans

The Southern Wayne Saints and the South Johnston Trojans will face off at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday without much rest having both just played. South Johnston took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Southern Wayne, who comes in off a win.

Having struggled with four defeats in a row, Southern Wayne turned things around against Smithfield-Selma on Tuesday. They snuck past the Spartans with a 54-50 win.

Southern Wayne found their leader in sophomore Jayden Moore, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Moore has scored all season. Zymeer Vick was another key player, putting up 11 points and six assists.

Meanwhile, South Johnston was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 56-54 heartbreaker at the hands of Hunt.

Southern Wayne's victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-9. As for South Johnston, they now have a losing record at 6-7.

Southern Wayne was able to grind out a solid win over South Johnston in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, winning 68-61. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was South Johnston's Cole Norris, who posted 26 points. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Southern Wayne still be able to contain Norris? There's only one way to find out.
