Softball Recap: Coginchaug Regional Find Success

Coginchaug Regional was handed a 12-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Middletown Blue Dragons, sneaking past 4-3. That's more bragging rights for the Blue Devils, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Emily Allen made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April.

Allen wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Taryn Adams, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

Coginchaug Regional hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are 4-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Coginchaug Regional's victory bumped their record up to 10-8. As for Middletown, they dropped their record down to 1-12 with the loss, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Coginchaug Regional will take on Hale Ray at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Middletown has already played their next contest (against Plainville), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
