Softball Recap: Ogden Tigers vs. Morgan Trojans

Ogden had lost four straight at home, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 5-11 to make it five. They lost 25-12 to the Morgan Trojans. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 18, 2023, but that streak is no more.

Aracely DeLeon was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauretta Taylor, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

As for Morgan, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. Considering they have won seven games by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

On Morgan's side, Eva Birkeland made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. That's the most strikeouts Birkeland has posted since back in March. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Kaiya Peterson was incredible, going 4-for-5 with one home run, nine RBI, and three runs. Those nine RBI gave her a new career-high. Joesi Kelly also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ogden will square off against Layton at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Morgan, they will be playing in front of their home fans against West at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
