Softball Preview: Lincoln Trojans vs. Liberty County Bulldogs
The Lincoln Trojans will take on the Liberty County Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Lincoln hadn't beaten Florida State University High School on the road since February 23, 2021 but that history sure didn't bother them on Tuesday. The Trojans had just enough and edged out the Seminoles 5-4.
Gabbi Coulter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ava Lawless, who fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lanie Woodson, who scored a run and stole three bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Lawless wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Lincoln lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Liberty County entered their tilt with Arnold on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against the Marlins.
Lincoln has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.6 runs over those games. As for Liberty County, their victory bumped their record up to 11-2.
Lincoln might still be hurting after the 16-6 loss they got from Liberty County in their previous meeting back in February. Will the Trojans have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
