Baseball Preview: Stanton Buffaloes vs. Brownfield Cubs
The Stanton Buffaloes will head out on the road to challenge the Brownfield Cubs at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Stanton took a eight-run loss the last time they faced off against Lamesa, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Buffaloes sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 victory over the Tornadoes on Tuesday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Buffaloes as it put an end to their 11-game losing streak.
Gage McCown and Jaedyn Martinez were a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, McCown didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over six innings pitched. Meanwhile, Martinez tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Stanton is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-12 otherwise. At the plate, McCown scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3, while Martinez scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits Martinez has posted since back in April of 2024.

Everything went their way against the Cranes as they made off with a 13-7 victory. Considering the Cubs have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Brownfield pushed their record up to 12-5 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.
