Preview: Shawnee Indians vs. Lima Central Catholic Thunderbirds
Shawnee is 8-2 against Lima Central Catholic since December of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Shawnee Indians are on the road again and play against the Lima Central Catholic Thunderbirds at 7:30 p.m. on December 28th.
Last Friday, it was a hard-fought matchup, but Shawnee had to settle for a 48-46 defeat against Coldwater. While losing is never fun, Shawnee can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 128th, while Coldwater is ranked 19th).
Despite the defeat, Shawnee saw an underclassman step up: Beckett Bertke dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. The match was Bertke's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Dominic Lynch, who scored 12 points.
Meanwhile, Lima Central Catholic put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Van Wert 75-45 at home. Lima Central Catholic's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Shawnee's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-3. As for Lima Central Catholic, their victory bumped their record up to 5-0.
Shawnee came up short against Lima Central Catholic in their previous meeting on December 2nd, falling 47-42. Can Shawnee avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
