Preview: New Castle Trojans vs. Mt. Vernon Marauders
The New Castle Trojans will head out on the road to challenge the Mt. Vernon Marauders at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. New Castle has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 12.
Last Friday, New Castle came up short against Yorktown and fell 60-52. New Castle has not had much luck with Yorktown recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
New Castle's loss came about despite a quality game from Emma Hart, who scored 27 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hart has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kaidyn Minyard, who scored four points along with two steals.
Greenfield-Central typically has all the answers at home, but on Friday Mt. Vernon proved too difficult a challenge. They walked away with a 48-41 win over the Cougars.
New Castle bumped their record down to 2-18 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Mt. Vernon, their victory bumped their record up to 8-13.
New Castle suffered a grim 57-34 defeat to Mt. Vernon in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. Can New Castle avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
