Basketball Recap: Connor Cote-Boss' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Chapman over Smoky Valley

Chapman was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 60-36 to the Smoky Valley Vikings. The Irish were probably out for revenge after losing 66-53 to them when the teams met back in March of 2018, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Chapman lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Connor Cote-Boss, who posted five points. Cote-Boss also put up a block, which washis first of the season. Jaysik Bauman was another key player, putting up four points.

Smoky Valley was led to victory by Braylon Olson and Ty Heitschmidt. Olson went 7 of 11 en route to 19 points in addition to five assists and three steals, while Heitschmidt went 8 for 17 on his way to 20 points along with eight boards and three blocks. Those three blocks gave Heitschmidt a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brock Gengler, who scored seven points.

Chapman's defeat dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Smoky Valley, they moved to 1-6 with that victory, which also ended their 11-game losing streak.

Chapman has already played their next matchup, an 84-26 loss against Rock Creek on the 17th. As for Smoky Valley, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 58-51 win against Nickerson on the 17th.
