Baseball Recap: Gross Catholic Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Elkhorn, Gross Catholic was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Roncalli Catholic Lions, sneaking past 5-4. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 9-0 back in April.

Kayo Rempe spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up ten Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Gross Catholic let Maddux Villamonte and Robbie Brennan run wild. Villamonte went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Brennan got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Mikey Bejar was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

Gross Catholic moved to 20-4 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Roncalli Catholic, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record this season.

Gross Catholic didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 16-1 defeat against Skutt Catholic on the 1st. As for Roncalli Catholic, they have also already played their next matchup, an 8-5 loss against Bennington on the 4th.
