Preview: Lawrence County Cougars vs. McComb Tigers
Lawrence County has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the McComb Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Lawrence County walked away with it. They enjoyed a cozy 44-27 victory over Mendenhall on Friday. The score was all tied up 20-20 at the break, but Lawrence County was the (much) better team in the second half.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lawrence County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ahmad Hardy, who rushed for 144 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.2 yards per carry. Hardy hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for six straight games. Markavion Owens also helped out as he racked up 134 rushing yards.
Meanwhile, McComb put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They really took it to Bay for the full four quarters, racking up a 55-7 victory at home. McComb might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won nine matches by 30 points or more this season.
McComb's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jamarcus Pittman led the charge by throwing for 274 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 13.7 yards per attempt, and also punching in a touchdown on the ground. Sanfrisco Magee did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 158 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Lawrence County now has a winning record of 6-5. As for McComb, they have yet to lose a game at home this season, leaving them with a 11-0 record.
Keep an eye on the end zone in Friday's game as the pair haven't had much trouble getting there this season. Lawrence County commands a daunting offense this season, having averaged 5.5 touchdowns per game. However, it's not like McComb struggles in that department as they've been even better at 9.2 per game. With these two high-octane teams facing off on Friday, fans should be in for an exciting offensive matchup.
