Baseball Game Preview: Birmingham Patriots vs. Santa Paula Cardinals

The Birmingham Patriots will be taking part in a tournament against the Santa Paula Cardinals at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Birmingham is headed into their home opener looking to turn things around after starting their season on the road. They fell just short of Valencia by a score of 3-2 on Monday.

Meanwhile, Santa Paula unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They lost 10-2 to Calabasas on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Cardinals have suffered since February 15, 2024.

Santa Paula got a good showing from Isaak Medina, who struck out six batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk).

At the plate, Ruben Venegas was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect4-for-4 with one home run, one stolen base, and one double. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (four). Another player making a difference was Sebastian Mendez, who went a perfect4-for-4 with one RBI.
