Softball Preview: Springfield Cougars vs. Penncrest Lions
The Springfield Cougars are taking a road trip to take on the Penncrest Lions at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. Springfield will be looking to extend their current 14-game winning streak.
Springfield proved they can win big on Monday (they won by seven) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over Marple Newtown. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cougars have posted against the Fightin Tigers since May 20, 2019.
Penncrest couldn't beat Harriton on Wednesday even though they stacked four runs on them in the third inning. The Lions came up short against the Rams, falling 22-6.
Sydney Reid was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Morgan Shepardson, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Springfield's win bumped their record up to 16-2. As for Penncrest, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-11.
