Basketball Recap: Spring Picks Up Third Straight Win on the Road

Spring had won three straight on the road, but on Wednesday they bumped up to 11-13 to make it four. They walked away with a 61-50 win over the Nimitz Cougars. The game was the first time the Lions have beaten the Cougars on their court since January 10, 2023.

Gabriella Salazar went supernova, going 8-for-18 to rack up 28 points and five steals. Those 28 points gave her a new career-high. Randi Woodard was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds.

Spring was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Nimitz only posted seven.

As for Nimitz, their loss dropped their record down to 7-13. Cougars fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against Spring since Wednesday.

Despite the loss, Nimitz still got an impressive performance from Alayia Hutchinson, who dropped a double-double with 23 points and 18 boards. Hutchinson is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Masiah Johnson, who posted six points and eight rebounds.

Coming up, Spring will square off against Aldine at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. The Lions are facing the Mustangs at the right time seeing as the Mustangs are stuck on a 12-game losing streak. As for Nimitz, they will challenge Dekaney at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
