Recap: Weeki Wachee Hornets vs. Hudson Cobras
The Weeki Wachee Hornets scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They claimed a resounding 78-23 win over Hudson at home. Weeki Wachee has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 contests by 29 points or more this season.
Paige Atwater continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 40 points along with four steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Weeki Wachee's points. Another player making a difference was Joelys Rodriguez, who scored 19 points along with six steals.
Hudson lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Grace Rutherford, who scored nine points.
Weeki Wachee's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-8. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.4 points per game. As for Hudson, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-15.
Weeki Wachee will square off against Crystal River at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Crystal River will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 482nd, while Weeki Wachee is ranked 194th). Hudson's road trip will continue as they head out to face Nature Coast Tech at 6:30 p.m. on February 5th. Hudson comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 23 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
