Basketball Game Preview: Villa Angela-St. Joseph Vikings vs. Streetsboro Rockets

The Villa Angela-St. Joseph Vikings will head out to face off against the Streetsboro Rockets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Villa Angela-St. Joseph's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.

Villa Angela-St. Joseph is headed into the match after thoroughly thrashing Riverside: they outscored them in every quarter. Villa Angela-St. Joseph was the clear victors by a 76-53 margin over Riverside on Saturday. The Vikings have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven games by 23 points or more this season.

Antonio Brown was his usual excellent self, going 10-for-13 to rack up 22 points in addition to eight boards and seven assists. He has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jeremiah Martin, who went 7-for-13 en route to 20 points and three steals.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Villa Angela-St. Joseph was working as a unit and finished the game with 25 assists. They racked up ten more assists than Riverside's also-impressive total of 15.

Meanwhile, Streetsboro waltzed into their contest on Friday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They took down the Colts 63-47. Given the Rockets' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 164th, while the Colts are ranked 519th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Villa Angela-St. Joseph better focus on containing Charles Ivory and Jack Batten as the pair were huge in Streetsboro's win. Ivory went 7-for-9 on his way to 17 points along with eight rebounds and four blocks, while Batten went 6-for-14 to rack up 18 points and five assists. What's more, Ivory also posted a 78% field goal percentage, which is the highest he's achieved since back in January of 2024. Trevor Murray was another key player, putting up nine points.

Streetsboro pushed their record up to 19-3 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.6 points over those games. As for Villa Angela-St. Joseph, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 12-10 record this season.
