After a string of nine wins, St. Francis's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Loyola Cubs. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Golden Knights of the 3-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

While St. Francis had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 19 points in every set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-19, 21-25, 25-19, 25-19.

St. Francis' loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 18-7. As for Loyola, the win (which was their 14th in a row) raised their record to 26-4.

Coming up, St. Francis will welcome Brentwood School at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Loyola, they will venture away from home to take on Mater Dei at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
