Basketball Game Preview: Wise Pumas vs. Lake Taylor Titans

The Wise Pumas will face off against the Lake Taylor Titans at 4:45 p.m. on Saturday. Wise is coming into the contest hot, having won their last eight games.

Wise is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They breezed by Northwestern to the tune of 84-52 on Thursday. Given the Pumas' advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 27th, while the Wildcats are ranked 221st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Wise got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jayson Frost out in front who went 8 for 9 on his way to 19 points. That's the most points Frost has posted since back in February of 2024. Dion Walker was another key player, going 5 of 10 en route to 11 points along with five boards and five steals.

Wise smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Lake Taylor was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past Manor 74-47. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Titans.

Lake Taylor pushed their record up to 9-2 with the victory, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.4 points per game. As for Wise, their win bumped their record up to 8-1.

Wise came up short against Lake Taylor in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 63-58. Can Wise avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
