Holly is a perfect 9-0 against Las Animas since October of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Wildcats will face off against the Trojans at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
It was a proper cat-fight when Holly faced off against Swink on Friday. The Wildcats took their game with ease, bagging a 48-8 win over the Lions. Considering the Wildcats' offense had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Las Animas over Springfield in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Trojans blew the Longhorns out of the water with a 56-14 final score. With the Trojans ahead 36-14 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Holly better keep an eye on Orion Martinez. He was instrumental in Las Animas' win, rushing for 356 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 18.7 yards per carry. Those 356 rushing yards gave Martinez a new career-high. Logan Servaes got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Las Animas was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 373 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
One reason for the win was Las Animas' imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Braydon Ortiz was especially locked on to Springfield's QB and sacked him twice. Servaes got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Las Animas pushed their record up to 4-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 9.6 points on average this season. As for Holly, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.
Holly didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Las Animas in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, but they still walked away with a 24-20 win. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Martinez, who rushed for 181 yards and one score. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will the Wildcats still be able to contain Martinez? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
