Softball Game Preview: Barnegat Bengals vs. Toms River South Indians

The Barnegat Bengals will head out to challenge the Toms River South Indians at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday.

On Monday, Barnegat didn't have quite enough to beat Pinelands Regional and fell 3-2.

Meanwhile, Toms River South got the win against Freehold Boro on Saturday by a conclusive 15-5. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Indians.

Mikayla Lindemann was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched four innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles and one RBI.

In other batting news, Addison Tuper was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Sophia Colon, who scored three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Toms River South was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .552. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .391 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Toms River South now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Barnegat, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Barnegat couldn't quite get it done against Toms River South in their previous meeting back in April of 2019 as they fell 6-1. Can Barnegat avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
