Softball Recap: St. Pius X Drops Highest Score of Season Against Grants

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Pius X). They blew past the Grants Pirates 20-3 on Tuesday. The Sartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by ten runs or more this season.

Dominique Morett made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs.

In other batting news, Jordan Chavez was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Aubri Hooee was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.

St. Pius X always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .688. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2024.

St. Pius X has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-12 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Grants, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Pius X will take on Valencia at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Grants, they will face off against Espanola Valley at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Pirates are facing the Sundevils at the right time seeing as the Sundevils are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
