Basketball Recap: York Cougars vs. Clover Blue Eagles
York was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 17th straight loss dating back to last season. They were dealt a 57-12 defeat at the hands of the Clover Blue Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 210th, while the Blue Eagles are ranked 22nd).
York got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of A'Merianna Ingram and Brooklyn Dial, who each put up five points. Ingram also led the team in assists with two. Jordan Welsh held things down on the boards with five rebounds.
Clover got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Clara Powell out in front who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine boards. The dominant performance also gave Powell a new career-high in steals (four). Samara Lucas was another key player, dropping a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.
York's loss dropped their record down to 0-8. As for Clover, they pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home.
York will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Dreher at 6:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. As for Clover, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 78-7 win against East Gaston on the 27th.
