Softball Preview: Argos Dragons vs. Pioneer Panthers

Argos is 0-9 against Pioneer since April of 2015 but things could change on Monday. The Dragons will challenge the Panthers at 5:00 p.m. Pioneer took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Argos, who comes in off a win.

Argos made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Triton, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Dragons came out on top against the Trojans on Saturday by a score of 10-0 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The high-scoring effort was just what the Dragons needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

Ivy Stackhouse made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Adelyn Lewark was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-2. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Addison Kennell made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Kamryn Newby also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Pioneer's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Argos, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Argos has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Pioneer struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
