Basketball Recap: Highland Falls Short of Gary West Side in the Playoffs

Highland and Gary West Side squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Highland had to settle for second. They were outmatched by the Gary West Side Cougars and fell 74-33. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 353rd, while the Cougars are ranked 73rd).

Despite the defeat, Highland saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Danijel Zekavica posted eight points. What's more, Zekavica posted two boards, the most he's had since back in December of 2024.

Highland has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-14 record this season. Gary West Side has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season.

Highland does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Gary West Side, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 72-38 victory against Calumet New Tech on the 7th.
