Basketball Recap: Rank Disadvantage No Problem for Laurel

Laurel won the last time they faced Lutheran East and things went their way on Saturday too. Everything went the Laurel Gators 's way against the Lutheran East Falcons as the Laurel Gators made off with a 65-40 win. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Gators 's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 177th, while the Falcons are ranked 46th).

Despite the loss, Lutheran East saw an underclassman step up: freshman Ja'Tayvea Caldwell posted 13 points and six boards. Caldwell is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Nae Ibekwe, who had six points and five rebounds.

Laurel's win bumped their record up to 6-12. As for Lutheran East, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-2.

Laurel has already played their next game (against Brush), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Lutheran East will take on St. Vincent-St. Mary at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. St. Vincent-St. Mary will roll in looking for their 12th straight victory, something Lutheran East surely won't give up without a fight.
