Basketball Recap: Monday's Loss Ends Santa Rosa's Winning Streak

It was a good run, but Santa Rosa unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Monday. The game between them and the Lyford Bulldogs didn't end well, with the Santa Rosa Warriors falling 49-34. Sadly, that's the third time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 47-34 back in December of 2024.

Santa Rosa lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Mia Garza, who posted eight points in addition to ten rebounds and four steals. Garza has been hot, having posted four or more steals the last seven times she's played. Aiden Garcia was another key player, putting up nine points and six steals.

Even though they lost, Santa Rosa smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in five consecutive matchups.

Santa Rosa's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 19-7. As for Lyford, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 22-6 record this season.

Santa Rosa will square off against Rio Hondo at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Santa Rosa is on a three-game streak of home wins, Rio Hondo a eight-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for Lyford, they will face off against Raymondville at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lyford is coming into the game hot, having won their last ten games.
