Softball Game Preview: Westview Wolverines vs. Carlsbad Lancers

Westview hasn't had much luck against Carlsbad recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Wolverines will square off against the Lancers at 4:00 p.m. Westview's pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so Carlsbad's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Westview is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out Santana 4-2. The game was the first time the Wolverines have beaten the Sultans on their field since May 17, 2023.

Meanwhile, Carlsbad won against Mira Mesa on Wednesday with three runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. The Lancers never let Westview get on the board and left with a 3-0 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Lancers.

The result came thanks to Sofia Tillis's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Chloe Hernandez and Gabriela Nevarez did most of the damage at the plate: Hernandez went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI, while Nevarez went 1-for-2 with one home run. Those two doubles gave Hernandez a new career-high.

Westview's win bumped their record up to 19-6-2. As for Carlsbad, their victory bumped their record up to 19-5.

Westview came up short against Carlsbad in their previous matchup on Friday, falling 3-0. Can the Wolverines avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
