Football Recap: Mount Zion Christian Academy Takes a Loss

Mount Zion Christian Academy dropped down to 3-2 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 36-16 to the Wilson Prep Tigers. The game marked the Mighty Warriors' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Despite the loss, Mount Zion Christian Academy still got an impressive performance from Sherrad Bennard III, who rushed for 197 yards on only 11 carries, and also threw for 137 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 12 passes. With that strong performance, Bennard III is now averaging an impressive 117.2 rushing yards per game.

As for Wilson Prep, they picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 2-5. They not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since November 29, 2024 (when they won 56-22).

Travon Usher was his usual excellent self, rushing for 194 yards on only 14 carries. He didn't just play on offense: he also picked up a sack and made six total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Mount Zion Christian Academy will square off against Hickory Grove Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Lions' defense has only allowed 12 points per game this season, so the Mighty Warriors' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Wilson Prep, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Washington County at 7:00 p.m. on the 17th.
