The Charlottesville Black Knights will face off against the Waynesboro Little Giants at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Charlottesville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
Charlottesville came into this matchup off a tough six-run defeat last Thursday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Orange County by a score of 9-7 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Black Knights have suffered since April 23, 2024.
Charlottesville got a good showing from Julian Mark-Williams, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Mark-Williams has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Abe Jaspen made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Mason Divers was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Waynesboro was able to grind out a solid win over James River on Thursday, taking the game 7-3.
Aidan White spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on seven hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, Haden Morris was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Jasiah Berg, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Waynesboro's victory bumped their record up to 5-9. As for Charlottesville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-4.
Waynesboro's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Charlottesville hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .324. It's a different story for Waynesboro, though, as they've only averaged .246. Will they be able to contain Charlottesville's hitters?
Charlottesville was able to grind out a solid win over Waynesboro in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 16-12. Do the Black Knights have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Little Giants turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
