Basketball Game Preview: Woodland Christian Cardinals vs. Argonaut Mustangs

The Woodland Christian Cardinals will take on the Argonaut Mustangs at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. Woodland Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 22 contests -- so hopefully Argonaut likes a good challenge.

Woodland Christian is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They strolled past Bret Harte with points to spare, taking the game 76-61. The score was all tied up 36-36 at the break, but the Cardinals were the better team in the second half.

Romello Bruhn was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 29 points and 11 rebounds. His evening made it 58 games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Tanner Thomas, who went 7-for-12 to rack up 16 points and seven boards.

Meanwhile, Argonaut had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20 points) and they went ahead and made it six on Tuesday. They walked away with a 75-64 victory over the Panthers.

Woodland Christian better focus on containing Mariano Lopez and Mitchell Mcmahan as the pair were huge in Argonaut's win. Lopez dropped a double-double with 17 points and ten rebounds, while Mcmahan went 6-for-11 on his way to 18 points and seven boards. Those 17 points gave Lopez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Adam Garcia, who went 5-for-9 en route to 11 points and five rebounds.

Woodland Christian's win was their 16th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 26-5. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 40.6 points. As for Argonaut, their victory bumped their record up to 25-6.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Woodland Christian has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 32.9 boards per game. However, it's not like Argonaut struggles in that department as they've been averaging 36.3 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

Woodland Christian didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Argonaut in their previous matchup back in January, but they still walked away with an 80-74 win.
