Shades Valley is 0-3 against Mountain Brook since September of 2020 but things could change on Friday. The Mounties will head out on the road to face off against the Spartans at 7:00 p.m.
Last Friday, Shades Valley came up short against Pell City and fell 21-14. While losing is never fun, the Mounties can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama football rankings (they are ranked 129th, while the Panthers are ranked 37th).
Shades Valley didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Cameron Johnson, Terrance James, TYLER YOUNG, and Amare White picked up one apiece. White got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Mountain Brook never let their opponents score on Friday. They breezed past Huffman to the tune of 43-0. The matchup marked the Spartans' most dominant victory of the season.
Mountain Brook's win came from a few key players Shades Valley will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Stuart Andrews, who rushed for 92 yards and a pair of scores. What's more, he posted two rushing touchdowns, the most he's had since back in August. Trey Vinson was in the mix too, providing Mountain Brook with two touchdowns.
Mountain Brook's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Boyd Cooper, Skip Stuermann, and Mason Baynes, who each picked up one sack apiece.
Mountain Brook has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 29.8 points over those games. As for Shades Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-6.
Shades Valley was taken down by Mountain Brook 37-0 in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Andrews, who rushed for 219 yards and four TDs while picking up 12.9 yards per carry.
