Baseball Recap: Broomfield Eagles vs. Arvada West Wildcats
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Broomfield walked away with it. They walked away with a 9-6 win over the Arvada West Wildcats on Saturday.
James Varela looked comfortable as he pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.
On the hitting side, Brendan Fritch was incredible, going 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of JC Smith, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Broomfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .424. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Arvada West only posted a batting average of .286.
Broomfield has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 16 of their last 17 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Arvada West, their defeat dropped their record down to 23-4-1.
Looking ahead, Broomfield will challenge Regis Jesuit at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. Arvada West does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
