Centauri is 1-9 against Montezuma-Cortez since May of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Falcons will be playing at home against the Panthers at 3:00 p.m. Centauri has given up an average of 9.1 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Centauri managed to slip by Alamosa the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Falcons lost 21-3 to the Mean Moose on Friday.
Jace Haslett made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Montezuma-Cortez had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.2 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Saturday. They never let the Miners get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won eight contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Cory Carver, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Samson Lein, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Montezuma-Cortez always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Fork only posted an OBP of .222.
Montezuma-Cortez pushed their record up to 15-4 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Centauri, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-12.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Centauri has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Montezuma-Cortez struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Centauri might still be hurting after the 12-2 loss they got from Montezuma-Cortez in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will the Falcons have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
