Football Recap: San Diego Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Jayden Johnson and Jayden Harris

San Diego fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Rancho Bernardo on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 23-16 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Broncos. While losing is never fun, the Cavers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 306th, while the Broncos are ranked 137th).

Jayden Harris and Jayden Johnson certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Harris threw for 138 yards and one TD, while Johnson rushed for 84 yards.

Even if they lost, San Diego's defense still kept up the pressure with four sacks. Esteban Herrera refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself.

Gaige Weddle continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Rancho Bernardo, rushing for 104 yards on only 12 carries, while also throwing for 61 yards and one touchdown. Those 104 rushing yards gave Weddle a new career-high.

Having lost for the first time this season, San Diego fell to 4-1. As for Rancho Bernardo, the win keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.

San Diego has already played their next matchup, a 31-13 loss against Point Loma on the 3rd. As for Rancho Bernardo, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 31-17 victory against Del Norte on the 3rd.
