Basketball Game Preview: McDonogh Eagles vs. St. Mary's Saints

McDonogh is preparing for their first region matchup of the season on Wednesday. They will host the St. Mary's Saints at 6:30 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Sunday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, McDonogh beat Prospect 46-40.

St. Mary's not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since December 20, 2024 (when they won 71-32). They breezed past Indian Creek to the tune of 82-53. With the Saints ahead 42-20 at the half, the game was all but over already.

McDonogh better keep an eye on Alexandra Vandiver. She was instrumental in St. Mary's win, shooting 6-for-8 from beyond the arc and dropping a double-double with 32 points and ten rebounds. Those 32 points gave Vandiver a new career-high. Bailey Harris was another key player, putting up 22 points along with eight boards and five steals.

The victory got St. Mary's back to even at 1-1. As for McDonogh, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

McDonogh skirted past St. Mary's 53-51 when the teams last played back in January. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Saints have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
