For the first time this season, Port Washington will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will look to defend their home field on Monday against the Slinger Owls at 4:45 p.m. Slinger took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Port Washington, who comes in off a win.
Port Washington is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Racine Lutheran/Prairie 13-5 on Saturday. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won three matches by eight runs or more so far this season.
Jack Bunyan was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Bunyan was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
In other pitching news, Sam Thompson looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Kyle Uselding, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Austin Johnson was another key player, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 1-for-3.
Port Washington was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Racine Lutheran/Prairie only posted a batting average of .241.
Meanwhile, Slinger suffered their closest loss since May 3, 2024 on Saturday. They fell just short of Oconomowoc by a score of 8-6. The defeat continues a trend for the Owls in their meetings with the Raccoons: they've now lost seven in a row.
Chase Leverance was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Johnson, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
The victory made it two in a row for Port Washington and bumps their season record up to 3-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games. As for Slinger, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.
Port Washington might still be hurting after the 8-1 defeat they got from Slinger when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Pirates avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
