The Anacoco Indians will head out to take on the Avoyelles Mustangs at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday. Anacoco is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.
Anacoco made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Montgomery, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Everything went Anacoco's way against Montgomery on Friday as Anacoco made off with a 13-3 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Indians.
Ruth Rodriguez looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Anacoco got a massive performance out of Jayla Calloway, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That home run was Calloway's first of the season. Oni Duran was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Anacoco kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since the start of last season.
Meanwhile, Avoyelles was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 13th straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against Port Barre, falling 16-2.
Anacoco pushed their record up to 9-3 with the win, which was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Avoyelles, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-12.
Avoyelles' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Anacoco hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .335. It's a different story for Avoyelles, though, as they've only averaged .090. Will they be able to contain Anacoco's hitters?
Anacoco might still be hurting after the 10-1 loss they got from Avoyelles when the teams last played back in March of 2019. Can Anacoco avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
