Baseball Recap: South Bend Riley Comes Up Short

South Bend Riley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their tenth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the Concord Minutemen. If the Wildcats were looking for revenge after losing 13-2 to the Minutemen when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Liam Wolf spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits.

On the hitting side, Cole Hunt was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one double and one RBI.

South Bend Riley's defeat dropped their record down to 3-18. As for Concord, their win bumped their record up to 8-12.

South Bend Riley and Concord could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. The Wildcats will square off against Mishawaka Marian at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (318 vs. 156). Meanwhile, Concord (ranked 212th) will meet Warsaw (ranked 76th) at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
