Baseball Game Preview: Springfield Senators vs. Pawnee Indians

The Springfield Senators will face off against the Pawnee Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.

Springfield fell victim to Granite City and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Warriors. The Senators have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

A.J. Ozier was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off eight hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Springfield saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Liam Watts, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

Meanwhile, Pawnee hadn't done well against Gillespie recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Indians were the clear victors by a 13-1 margin over the Miners. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won 14 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

The win (which was Pawnee's fourth in a row) raised their record to 19-12. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Springfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-19.

Springfield was able to grind out a solid win over Pawnee in their previous meeting back in May of 2023, winning 3-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Senators since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
