Softball Recap: Goodrich's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Monday

Goodrich fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Lake Fenton on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Blue Devils by a score of 8-7. The Martians' defeat signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.

Abby Stefanski spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and four unearned) runs on 13 hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Sophie Swanson and Jayden Gohs stepped up to the plate in a big way. Swanson went 3-for-5 with four RBI and one run, while Gohs got on base in all five of her plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Alisyn Raether, who went 2-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.

Goodrich's loss dropped their record down to 11-2. As for Lake Fenton, their victory bumped their record up to 15-3.

Looking ahead, Goodrich will take on Owosso at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Martians 2.7, the Trojans 4.1) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Lake Fenton, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Fowlerville at 4:00 p.m.
