Preview: West Central Area Knights vs. Staples-Motley Cardinals
West Central Area has been on the road for two straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will be home for the holidays to greet the Staples-Motley Cardinals at 7:15 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Tuesday, West Central Area faced Sauk Centre in a battle between two of the state's top teams. West Central Area came out on top in a nail-biter against Sauk Centre and snuck past 62-60.
Meanwhile, Staples-Motley was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Monday as they fell 64-60 to Upsala. While losing is never fun, Staples-Motley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 168th, while Upsala is ranked 36th).
West Central Area pushed their record up to 4-0 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.0 points per game. As for Staples-Motley, they now have a losing record at 1-2.
Everything came up roses for West Central Area against Staples-Motley when the teams last played back in February as the team secured a 65-38 victory. Does West Central Area have another victory up their sleeve, or will Staples-Motley turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
