Nikolas Schwartz made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Brody Schrantz was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Jim Thorpe's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 3-1 (and 4-9 when he doesn't). Cole Lazorick was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Jim Thorpe always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Northwestern Lehigh came tearing into Sunday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Indians.
Aidan Freeman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up ten Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Northwestern Lehigh saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nolan Fitzgerald, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double. Another was Brady Zimmerman, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Jim Thorpe's victory bumped their record up to 7-10. As for Northwestern Lehigh, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-2.
